The Carrier – The Pathogen Zombie.
When people aren’t thinking specifically about “The Romero” zombie they are probably thinking about this zombie type. That’s because people fear a massive plague that will wipe out humanity and kill us all. Don’t lie, you know it’s true.
So I think this zombie type is the one that is most feared and possibly the most dangerous as well.
Most deadly plagues in history peter out after a while simply because there are too few people to pass them on, but if the victims of the plague get out of their sickbeds to pass their germs around (through very painful ways) who’s to say the plague would ever stop.
Now If you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go slather myself with hand sanitizer… And “this time” it’s not just for fun.
Mmhm, -shudder- just imagine what the Black plague would be like if the final stage was walking dead. Oh god, then we would need to worry about zombie ticks and zombie rats too. No one is safe! -proceeds to lock self in an airtight chamber-
Air tight Container?!!! Now I’m not one to criticize, but there may be a teensy tiny flaw in that plan.
…Your going to need to bring video games.
*sniffles* what happened to Milla Jovovich….also http://images.icanhascheezburger.com/completestore/2009/3/3/128805980796115946.jpg still cracks me up
World War Z explains explicitly what causes the zombies? I dont remember that…
…none of them explains explicitly what causes zombies…they are just references for this type of zombie…as for World War Z
Through a series of oral interviews, Brooks as an agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission describes the history of World War Z. Although the true origin of the zombie pandemic is unknown, the story begins in China after a zombie from a previous outbreak bites a young boy. The Chinese government attempts to contain the infection and concocts a crisis involving Taiwan to mask the true purpose of increased military activity. Infected refugees seeking a cure and the black market organ trade spread the infection to other countries; an outbreak in Cape Town, South Africa finally brings the plague, then known as “African rabies”, to global attention.

Grimloche, nice find.
Cyrian, I read somewhere that Max Brooks, the author, ascribes the cause of the zombie breakout to a virus called Selenium. He goes into detail about how it works. Sorry I don’t have the link to the source at the moment.
I’ll try to track that down.
same link carter
Brooks designed World War Z to follow the “laws” set up in The Zombie Survival Guide, and explained that the guide may exist in the world of the novel as a precursor to the Zombie War. The zombies of the The Zombie Survival Guide are undead humans reanimated by an incurable virus, Solanum. They are devoid of intelligence and are motivated only by the desire to consume living flesh. The only way to destroy them is to destroy the brain, by any means. Although zombies are as strong as the humans they infected, and do not tire, they are slow moving and incapable of planning or cooperation in their attacks. Zombies usually reveal their presence by moaning
seams?
Dang it! Fourth Grade English class has failed me again. I’ll fix that… sometime.
Grimloche, Solanum! Yes, thank you. That has been driving me crazy all day. I’ve been walking around all day going solomin, seleleeminim, somesosomenim, my wife was ready to kill me.
I agree that this is probably the one of the most dangerous of the zombie types. Think about how fast a cold can affect people in a school or office. Now imagine that cold is a zombie virus spreading through a city like New York or Beijing. Millions would be already infected and not know it until it was too late. A scary thought, but it could happen. Also, little problem with the airtight chamber idea; if it’s airtight, how are you going to get more fresh air when your supply starts to get low?
If the virus goes airborne the zombies don’t even need to bite you, they just have to stumble around spreading it.
Everyone on the planet would be dead in a month tops.
-faint thumping echos from the one way bulletproof glass door of the the chamber for a few moments. Then there is simply the weak squeaking sound of something sliding down the surface of the glass-
Don’t know if you’ve seen this yet, but you might find it amusing: http://www.cracked.com/article_18683_7-scientific-reasons-zombie-outbreak-would-fail-quickly.html
I’ve seen that. I think they are right.
Given how good humans are at killing things, if it’s a Romero Type of zombie outbreak, the zombies are doomed.
Now if they run, have super strength, or spread by airborne contagion… that may be a different story.
I wonder if the zombies from “The Mad” fall under this category. They, like the zombies in “Zombieland” became zombies from tainted meat.
28 Weeks Later is best one of this type. In this one, the carrier isn’t actually a zombie, but rather like a Typhoid Mary. In the end, it leaves a nice, juicy moral dilemma; kill the cute, and still living little kid that’s the carrier, or just let him continue to create more infected zombies? 😀
fire might not be good either, it can produce poisonous, infecting fumes…
