The people of Murdertone are not completely unaware of the zombie apocalypse. They simply care far more about their own “pursuits” and small town politics than they do the outside world.

I’m sure if and when more zombies start showing up in their little town they’ll take it more seriously… or not.

First preview of AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 3. Finally we’re away from the farm and headed for the prison. Judging by the state of the characters in this clip you can tell things will be bloody and there will be very little time to shower when facing relentless hordes of the undead.

Season 3 of The Walking Dead promises to be pretty dark, and it looks like The Governor is confirmed to be in this season. Sooooo that’s positive. Also is anyone else weirded out when they hear Rick Grimes with a British Accent. Not that British guys can’t be tough (James Bond), but it’s not what I expect. Weird, it’s like having Harry Potter fight zombies.

Holy crap I would love to have a movie with Harry Potter fighting the zombie apocalypse. Get on that AMC!

More of my Left 4 Dead Concept Art.  I say concept art rather than fan art as I have successfully deluded myself that the fine people of Valve Software are following my comic to get more and more ideas for zombie bosses for “Left 4 Dead 3.”

My brain is awesome that way, and I am more than happy to oblige them as I know it’s only a matter of time before they swoop down from the sky in a golden chariot, offer me a job, and carry me off to Vegas to become the company’s collective bride.  (….Is ….is that too creepy of a fantasy?  That’s pretty creepy isn’t it?  I was afraid of that.)

This bit of Left 4 Dead concept art is of everyone’s favorite zombified cosplay character.  I can tell you truthfully that if I was playing the game and they had a zombie slave Leia I could never ever bring myself to fire upon her.  I simply have too many years of awkward teenaged hormonal fantasies wrapped up in that image to be able to fight.  I’m afraid this zombie boss would be able to pummel me to death without the slightest bit of resistance.  (That is not a euphemism by the way)  Still as a piece of Left 4 Dead concept art, it was pretty fun to draw.

I’ve been checking out some other “Left 4 Dead Concept Art” online.  You know what I discovered?  If you do a google image search on that term you see a tremendous amount of my zombie comics.  I am ridiculously proud of that.  Also I have yet to receive a Cease and Desist letter or restraining order from Valve software.  I am even more proud of that.

I “choose” to believe that that almost equals approval and/or love.  (I took it to that creepy place again didn’t I?)

Even with a zombie apocalypse going on you can bet that people will still be trying to kill each other. Why, cause we’re kinda jerks that way.

You wold think that human life would be even more precious in those end of the world situations, but I assure you there will be others who disagree with you… strongly.

More Daily Zombie Drawings from yours truly.  These three zombie drawings are again part of my project to start each day with a warm up drawing for the comic strip.

The stack of zombie drawings I’ve got on hand is starting to actually add up to something.  I’ve thought about what to do with them, I think I’ll take these to cons with me and see if there’s any interest in purchasing them at my table.  I’ve seen other artists doing things like that so that makes me feel slightly less mercenary about that

These are again done using prismacolor pencils on toned paper.  I got myself a new white marker from the craft store that puts down a flood of white.  I’d be happy about that except the solvent for the color gives me a bit of a headache.

Periodically I like to draw an attractive zombie.  That generally means zombie cleavage, which of course I’m a huge fan of.  Sure I take a certain amount of heat from friends and family for drawing zombies this way, but come on!… If Stephanie Myer can write about vampires that glitter in the sun instead of frying like a marshmallow I should be able to draw zombies that are kinda hot.

This is a self portrait of me as a zombie.  Note the extremely happy face.  That’s because being a zombie is possibly going to be awesome!  I like to think positive.  Most people focus on surviving the zombie apocalypse.  I don’t really understand that.  Chances are you’re gonna die.  Lets focus on your new life as one of the relentless dead forever hungering for the flesh of the living.  Sound good!  I thought so.

This is a fun old man zombie I drew and for no reason at all I stuck mushrooms growing out of his head.  It’s that little bit of disgusting attention to detail that makes a good zombie drawing.  Just my opinion though.

Small town terror makes for the best scary stories. To my everlasting horror I’ve lived in Utah my whole life. I know, I know, I feel bad for me too, but it couldn’t be helped. One of the odd parts of this state and I suspect every other states are these teeny tiny little postage sized towns scattered here and there around the state. Whenever I drive through one of these places I can’t help but wonder…. What dark purpose holds them captive to this cursed land? What manner of twisted soul would willingly choose to remain in this blighted hellhole when light and life are a mere half an hour away. Small Town Terror is a perfect setting for nightmares and madness.

That thought is immediately followed by the knowledge that my Wife is from one of these small towns…. Suddenly a great many horrifying things make sense. (Small Town Terror indeed… I’m scared now!)

This is also when I realize I read too much H.P. Lovecraft. I can’t help but picture, debased townsfolk, cults, and dark and ancient secrets from these horrifying small towns. It’s in the writings of some of my favorite horror authors that they will just make up a small town as a setting to have all manner of evil happen. H.P. Lovecraft has Innsmouth and Arkham, Steven King has Castlerock and Derry.

For my comic I haven’t really written much about where my zombie characters “live.” To be honest when I started the comic I didn’t care, I just wanted an excuse to keep drawing. Now that I’ve been doing this for a while my characters are feeling more real to me (The start of my madness perhaps) and I start wanting to know more about them and where they live. When I get done with the current road trip storyline maybe I’ll take some time and flesh the place out. I like the idea of a little bit of world building for my comic.
