I imaging the grim reaper just waits around waiting for all of us to just shed our mortal coil. Wow that would be boring, and creepy. Just standing there staring at people unseen and waiting.
And who knows what that dude is wearing under his robes. Could be nothing, could be something… or it could be that he’s slathered himself in butter and this is the grim reaper’s “thing.”
I don’t know, but I like to theorize. And just like everything I theorize about I can’t help but take it to a dark place.
That place always has butter.

butter makes everything better
Well it does help insulate when say you are stalking someone naked outside their window at 3:00 a.m.
Not that I’ve ever done that…. Because that would be…. wrong…. ummmm very wrong.
poor death the Apocalypse is putting him out of a job.
I think it’s giving him an unhealthy amount of free time. Kind of like when an old guy retires and doesn’t know what to do with himself.
Not really zombiish, but slightly relevant is the Piers Anthony novel, “Riding a Pale Horse”, where a suicidal man recants and shoots Death… to death, and then has to take over the role of Death himself.
His robe creates the skeleton illusion; he generally wears boxers, socks and a T-shirt under it.
In that story, Death’s purpose is to collect the souls of people who are close to a balance of good and evil, rather than their deeds indicating a definite “Up or Down” definition for their fate. Death then does minute measurements, and tweaks the souls a bit, making them either more buoyant to float up to heaven, or heavier to sink down to hell.
When he is undecided, the dying remain in a perpetual state of dying. So, even though the novel doesn’t go there, I guess that would be zombies. It would suck to be a zombie constantly mid-heart attack or mid-stroke, though.
I’ve got that book. I had to pick it up because the cover art was done by Micheal Whelan who’s one of my favorite artists.
I thought it was a pretty good read. It’s the only one I’ve read so far from that series though.
Have you heard of Terry Pratchett’s Death? He is a fun guy too. I think I’ve already told you about Terry’s books – some of them contains zombies too. http://discworld.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie#Zombies
Hm, I’m a jellyfish…
I haven’t read any of his book, though I hear they are pretty funny. I need to check out Audibles and see if they’ve got any of his stuff.
The best of the Incarnations of Immortality series, IMO, is “For Love of Evil”, but you appreciate it better if you read the previous 5 books first to learn the history of the 5 main Incarnations (Death, Nature, Fate, War and Time). As you might guess, this book is about the Incarnation of Evil, Satan, and it’s a very interesting perspective on being the embodied representation of Evil in the world.
I might just have to check that out.
