Nekos are still anthro animals (Anthro=animal displaying human charactics, or, to stretch it, human displaying animal characteristics like ears or a tail). But that’s okay, The Bronies don’t think they are furries either. Furry=fan of anthro animal. Freaking talking ponies, yup! Anthro! LOL
Uh… Furry isn’t a fetish, OR a lifestyle, it’s a fandom. We are fans of cartoon animals. It is something cute that lets us be a kid for a little while. Like Legos. I’m sure there is some freak out there fantasizing about Legos in a sexual manner. That in no way means that that’s what that toy is about, or what all people who like Legos are buying the toys for.
Everyone has interests, and things they like. TV shows, certain types of art, photography featuring lighthouses, whatever. Doesn’t mean they fap to it. 0.o Interests are rather like feet. They are feet, everyone has them, and while feet are viewed in a fetishistic light by a few rare folks, not everyone thinks of them as sex objects.
I’m not sure I am getting my point across here, but here’s hoping. Want to make fun of furries? There is plenty of fodder to use that is FAR more accurate than the sexual angle. (we are huge nerds, as a starting point)

I’ve taken enough psych classes in college I could have majored in it. Anything and I mean anything can become a fetish. And yes for some people furry is a fetish.
Obviously not for everyone, probably not even for the vast vast majority of people who are into “furryism” if thats even a term.
Most people aren’t turned on by shoes or NEEEEEED shoes to get arroused. For them Shoes are not a fetish. But there are some people who are, and for them it’s a fetish.
….Just like some people need to dress up in a furry costume to get aroused. Yes that happens, I’ve seen it, and yes I like to poke fun of it here.
I’m not condemning furries here, but I don’t see anything wrong with poking fun at this type of thing. It exists… and it’s pretty funny that it exists.
