You would think that that would be a very obvious statement, but Japan is a weird place and I’ve…. seen… things. Things that once seen cannot be unseen… No matter how much I drink to kill the pain.
Here’s something else that the Necronomicon is NOT, it’s not real. Sadly the Necronomicon is a fictional book first thought up in H.P. Lovecraft’s story “The Hound” which was written in 1922. It’s a literary device to create mood and mystery in some of Lovecraft’s short stories.
“But, Carter!” You say, “I picked up a copy at my local Barnes and Nobles last week and I’m currently summoning the old ones to finish my chores so I can play more video games.”
Again, sadly no. What you probably have in your hands is one of the many hoaxes that have been made over the years. The most likely one being the “Simon Necronomicon” that was put together in the 70′s by two guys in a Brooklyn book store who were really into a lot of drugs If I remember the story right.
There are people out there determined to believe it’s a real book though and not a literary device by a horror writer… People are weird.
Also there is this, I posted it before but it’s so awesome it deserves a further look.

gooooood the necronmicon that book was at my school library
Oh! Please tell me it was Arkham University. Please please please… I need this.
Pft not real… next you’ll tell me that Santa Clause isn’t real
Back in high school when I bought up all of the books by HPL I found a nice little copy of the necronomicon. Well I had to complete the set so I bought it. It was done so seriously that I really liked reading it. I know I could never write a book like that without putting jokes and puns throughout it. I don’t think it was the Simon text. Plain black cover with Necronomicon written across it. The intro from the Mad Arab was a nice touch. Voices compelling him to write and all.
Anyone seen the Cthulhu movie?
Damn I would have liked to see this on the big screen.

I remember seeing the Necronomicon being for sale at my local Walden Books when I was a kid. I was actually afraid to even touch it (Give me a break I was seven)
When I found out the book was written by two dudes looking to make a buck it was a crushingly bitter realization.
I guess it could have been worse, it could have been real and the Old Ones really do exist and will one day arise and destroy or drive mad all of pathetic humanity…. So… you know. Could be worse.
..I guess.
Japan, one of the only other places in the world with weirder things in it than America. If the Necronomicon WERE real, we would probably not be sitting here talking right now. Although, if it is real, those who have a copy are probably too terrified of what will happen if they try to do half the things in it.
The Necronomicon is real and the reason it drives mad all who read it is that yes it is great old one pornography… beleive me you definatly loose SAN when yoru watching the Cthulu version of the Karma Sutra
That’s a hilarious idea. The Necronomicon is full of salacious pictures of the Old Ones posing in revealing and compromising ways. Possibly when they were younger and needed the money.
I know that’s why most Hollywood starlets do it. Or so they say.
I pretty much thought this whole thing got started by somebody *coughcoughlovecraftcoughcough* read from the necronomicon
One of these days I may do an origin of how the zombie apocalypse came to be in the comic. But only if I can think of a way to make it funny.
I’d say it would probably involve drugs/alcohol and secret government scientists. That or drugs/alcohol and guys living in their mom’s basement.
i have the necronomicon and it doesn´t have pictures!!!! only strange words in an old language and strange symbols! i want the american version!
If it’s the “Simon Necronomicon” then it’s Sumerian for the most part. I really have to track down that link where it had a bunch of interesting information on where that Necronomicon came from. Even though it’s not real it is still pretty interesting.
But then I’m a sucker for utterly useless information.
Should have done an army of darkness gag with this one. :p btw! in reference to your older strips about lovely zombie ladies….. http://fatpita.net/images/image%20%288668%29.jpg?8667
Foxtrack, Nice picture. I always thought those runway models looked a little bit too creepy. Never once found them attractive.
I always preferred a women with a little more meat on her bones so to speak. Super skinny is kinda gross.
As for Army of Darkness jokes, oh, they are a coming. How could I not do an homage to one of my favorite movies of all time. It would be madness I say.
