I don’t know if you’re as big a John Carpenter fan as I am, (NO YOU”RE NOT! AND I’LL PURPLE NURPLE ANYONE WHO SAYS DIFFERENT!) but I’ve been looking forward to the new “The Thing” for years.
I’m not happy about it being a prequel, I think that’s pretty damned annoying actually, but what are ya gonna do? Regardless, Universal pictures tweeted that the release date will be….
October 14, 20011
That’s just four days after the glorious anniversary of my birth. It’s as if the heavens are shining once again upon me.
Synopsis:
Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman.
In the thriller THE THING, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.
Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.
When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.
I used to own “The Thing” on VHS, but I watched it so many times I wore out the tape.

Unless they insert a cute plot twist at the end we sort of know what is going to happen to Kate and Carter.
That’s exactly why I hate prequels, they immediately throw away a lot of tension in the movie because you already know the ending, more or less.
Wore out your tape?
Two Words: DVD……
Wait, three.. Dammit, can’t since I started coming to this site and a zombie bit of my fingers.
I have it on an external hard drive now. It may take me longer to wear it out this time. But I’m going to try.
20011 sounds like it’s going to be a loooong time before it comes out. lol.
Thank Cthulhu that’s a typo or I would cry.
Damn these big super manly hands of mine, it makes it so hard to type.
