Well no one took me to task over claiming that Jason from “Friday the Thirteenth” was a zombie so I might as well go full bore and proclaim that the monster from Merry Shelley’s “Frankenstein” is a zombie too.
Do you hear that? That soft thumping noise out there in the distance…. That is the sound of thousands of literary nerds rolling around in their graves.
I used to be of the opinion that Frankenstein’s Monster wasn’t a zombie, but since then I’ve been working on broadening my pallet on what I consider to be or not to be a zombie. I look forward to many people telling me how wrong I am for the rest of my life.
Broadening my pallet… over zombies? That sounds… wrong… somehow.
Also I just realized that “Unholy union of many different bodies” sounds really really dirty. I swear I wasn’t thinking about that when I wrote it.

Hehe, indeed it does sound a bit dirty Carter but don’t worry. It’s not the first place most of our minds go. I men who in their right mind would instantly beginning thinking of the cool morbid flesh….hungry stare….ragged, exhausted look…..I’m going to stop now.
Fun fact I want to poll here. Who knew that the original Frankenstein movie had the dialogue “In the name of God, I now what it feels like to be God” censored by a lightning bolt? Apparently it was a bit too inflammatory in that day and age.
It occurs to me that within the entirety of resident evil games there is pretty much every type of zombie available.
Now stop dawdling and tell me how they will fix that bucket of soup zombie! I’m kinda running out of victims to kidnap and murder for results.
On a side not. I feel that Frankensteins monster is really only half a zombie. I mean sure he really an amalgamation of dead parts, however his soul in essence and his “humanity” remains…well humanesquce. He has his own will and as much normal behavior as can be had by a creature borne into the world as he was.
I’m also pretty sure he aint a mixture of rums and fruit juices either.
Still says Jason was not an energy zombie and was in fact a mystic type since his mom Cursed the place { which whn ya think about it kinda explains why no matter how or why he always ends up BACK in crystal lake }
and Frankie is definatly a gray area since depending on the story variation he is wither a fully living being with bodily functions and other things that would qualify him as “living” while in others he’s a corpse powered by lightning
True, In Merrey Shelley’s original story he starts out well… dead parts, and then he’s alive. Heart beats, blood flows, he thinks and is intelligent. However he still was dead. Does that make him just an Extremely High Functioning zombie?
Later versions of this story do have him kind of as a energy zombie (Like Jason, lol). He’s a pretty big grey area.
Damn I love debating things like this.
Zombieologist, don’t worry. We’re back to the main story Wednesday.
In all technicality, a Frankenstein like monster would actually be a flesh golem, but that’s the D&D geek in me talking.
but again thats a greyish area, I mean look at golem types. The original golem was controlled via a command tablet inserted into the body, normally the back of the head. Franky boy had none such thing, he in fact had free will. Plus no magic was used to make him, only science……SCIENCE MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AND THE VOICES EVEN CALLED ME CRAZY! SCIENCE! ahem.
I think I should switch to decaf.
You know what, I remember seeing a movie once where a bunch of scientists did a Frankenstein project using pieces of, I think, 80 different people. The guy they created (he choose to be a guy, he was made of 40 males and 40 females body parts) was actually very civilized most of the time, but had flashbacks of memories from those he was made from. I, unfortunately, do not remember what that movie was called or if he would count as a zombie, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
Zombie500, see but the counter argument to that could be that all “Flesh” Golems are actually a type of zombie.
We will have to alert the entire D&D community that they are playing their game incorrectly.
“Does that make him just an Extremely High Functioning zombie?”
That comment reminds me of a few of the zombies in Monster Island and the 2 follow ups by David Wellington (which I highly recommend if you haven’t read ‘em!). These zeds had kept their brains oxygenated throughout the zombification process which allowed them to retain higher brain funtions… Extremely High Functioning Zombies resulted!! I would say more but then I would spoil the books… go read them now.
I’ve heard of those. Haven’t picket them up yet.
I used to read a book about every three days, but this last two years my reading habits have dropped right off the map.
I feel shame…. again.
Hmmm for once im suprised you didn’t have Frankenhook listed on the movie list
Do you mean “Frankenhooker” from 1990? Damnit, I completely forgot about that one. I’ve heard of it, but never seen it.
That one might work.
Yeah that is the one horrible movie beyond B grade, but still very funny and definatly fits this zombie type.
I must possess it now. You don’t understand my obsessive compulsiveness when it comes to hunting down old movies.
I love them.
I wish I could draw. I think it would be awesome to make a zombie tarot deck. This guy might be a good one for the hanged man.
That sounds like a fun project. A zombie Tarot deck.
Also, it’s never too late to start drawing. I don’t believe in “Talent.” I think that’s bullcrap. Drawing is a learned skill and I think it’s impossible to get worse at something you do all the time.
So get practicing and eventually you’ll be awesome, besides what have you got to lose by trying?
Thanks, maybe if I actually put in some effort I might turn out something cool. On my blog I have started to write out a guide for the cards, that will give me a good place to start.
Awesome, I look forward to seeing it.
Wanna know something creepy? In dragon age 2 this exact thing happens to your characters mother in the game.
SPOILERS!!!! I haven’t played it yet!
This is where I plug my ears and run around like a goof pretending not to here that.
