Frank Darabont Fires “The Walking Dead’s” Writing Staff

So here’s the latest rumor, Frank Darabont has apparently fired the entire writing staff for the next season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”
EXCLUSIVE TUESDAY 5PM: I hear The Walking Dead writer/ executive producer/ director Frank Darabont has let go of the writers on the hot freshman AMC series, which has already renewed for a second season. That includes Darabont’s No. 2, writing executive producer Charles “Chic” Eglee. Writer turnover on series between seasons is commonplace but wholesale overhauls are unusual. What’s more, I hear Darabont is looking to forgo having a writing staff for the second season of Walking Dead altogether and assign scripts to freelancers.
I got this from news from Deadlines.com you can go there to read the whole article.
Well that’s pretty interesting. Sucks big time if you’re one of those writers though. Another rumor I’ve heard is that Darabont is planning on writing season 2 of “The Walking Dead” by himself.
My question: What do you think of that? Is it better to have a singular voice writing these things, or should you have a staff of people? I’m never a fan of designing by committee, but in this case I think burnout from taking on such a workload would be a concern. Thoughts?

that image needs a slogan, like “I love using some tongue baby”
I’d fear freelancers putting in scripts might get some pretty crappy scripts in, and then have to rework it to make it fit, or role it as is and make something that sucks, instead of gnaws away on your bones. I guess we’ll see how season 2 rolls and hope it brings season 3.
It’s a Zombie Necktie
If season 1 was successful enough to earn a season 2, why throw everything out and start new? I understand some changes and working to improve, but a complete over haul seems like a really risky move. Even if it turns out to be a good batch of writers, the overall theme or feel of the show would be slightly different which could alienate current fan base.
wait why they do that i throught the story was perfect, i just wonder where the guy who hacked is own hand off went
From what I’ve “Heard” Darabont has done most of the writing and rewriting for season 1 scripts.
I suppose he might just be trying to control the final product of season 2. Not always a bad thing. I’m usually in favor of having a singular vision for a project. If things are done by a group sometimes it can feel like a disjointed soap opera.
Not always, but sometimes.
That’s how Battlestar Galactica felt towards the end. Big pile of WTF.
I didn’t know what to think when my wife mentioned this to me. The series isn’t perfect but I don’t think it needs a wholesale firing of the writers. Supposedly AMC is trying to make it seem like just a few changes are being made but we’ll see if Darabont, and maybe his relatives show up in the writing credits next season. I know he’s loyal to friends- at least three of the regular actors in WD were in his movie The Mist.
One guy in charge, well watch Babylon 5.
I dunno if Buffy counts for that too, I’m not that familiar with it.
The writing is fine where it stands now, but if Dranbont has been doing most of the writing and rewriting, maybe he’s just cutting out the middle man.
See that’s what I thought. If it’s true he’s writing or rewriting everything anyway then what’s the point of the writers.
Either way, the Finally is almost here and this Sunday is going to be a recap of previous episodes. Should be fun.
I guess it does depend on whether he is really having to rewrite everything himself but the first season is really good. I’d hate to see it change too much.
There’s already a bunch of people complaining about it deviating from the comic too much.
