“The Cursed” – The magic/curse zombie type
It was fun drawing this zombie type… and not just because I REALLY like drawing boobs. But I got to try a few different things with this zombie webcomic in illustrator that I normally don’t do.
Illustrator is a great program and I use it every single day. Sadly it doesn’t do all the nifty pixel manipulations that Photoshop does. Trying to make it come close is a fun challenge though.
When I go to scale up my webcomic I’m going to be very grateful I’m using it though.
… Anyway Still trying to work out my “Comic Style”… Wow that sounds pretentious doesn’t it? I feel shame.

I mean…come on….it has a horde of zombie’s fighting for a zombie to get the necronomicon
and for some reason the line “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way” comes into my brain with this one. \m/@.@\m/
Unfortunately I can’t use Evil Dead type zombies for this one though. Those go under the “Possession” type (Metaphysical) zombies.
Technically I shouldn’t even use the Necronomicon as it’s a book about the “Old ones” not actually about raising the dead.
You know, the more I look at this comic, the less happy I am about it.
I should be able to do better than this… she’s just standing there… kinda boring really.
Normally I’d just shrug and say “well tomorrows another day” but since these are going to eventually go on a poster I’m going to take another crack at it.
I want the poster of these “zombie types” to be awesome… this just doesn’t qualify. (sadness)

The zombies in Evil Dead were raised by magical means, but I do see what you mean about the possesion part, Evil Ash. Wouldn’t the undead army be considered a zombie army though. They are dead, reanimated/come back to life, they just don’t have organs.
As for the drawing, I dunno. I like it, but would expect a poster to be higher detailed as it would be much larger. Maybe do “example” versions for the web and “poster” versions which are much more detailed? Not sure I just know that they’ll be great when you get them figured out.

She looks like she just got animated/reanimated, so I like the pose.
Look at any movie, where the creation was turned away from the camera, and it turns for the reveal. She would have more movement in her if you give the dress a “swirl” in the opposite direction. Oh yea, I REALLY like the “smoke” coming off the candels. Very evil.
Just my thoughts.
Grimloche, In Evil Dead they do use the Necronomicon to “Summon” or let loose the evil, however the actual “Zombification” takes place due to possession by the demonic spirits.
That’s one of those movies that straddles the fence between zombie/demon genres. I choose to give it the benefit of the doubt as Ash’s girl friend’s dead body is possessed in Evil Dead II.
Everyone, thanks for the kind words about the art, but I think I’ll still take another crack at it. I have a picture of how I would like it to look in my head that I just have to do.
When I’m done I’ll post them both up, maybe let everyone vote on which one gets to go on the poster. That might be fun.

28 days is the carrier type.
Yes the “Infected” from “28 days” qualifies as “the Carrier” type zombie.

I’ve done my best to classify all the different ways that zombies could come about. Unfortunately I can’t draw zombies that look exactly like characters or creatures from specific movies as that’s a copyright violation.
I can, however, draw my own version of each zombie type. I’ll be steadily going down that list one by one then I’ll put them all together and print out a poster to sell on the site for anyone who would like one.
After that I was thinking of doing a poster of all the undead from various culture’s mythology. We’ll see.
Ah, magic/cursed zombies; one of the most annoying types of zombie out there. The only time these guys are REALLY bad is when they’re intelligent and can use magic. For a remake of this one, maybe you could make it look like the zombie is being summoned or something like that.
See I would consider them one of the toughest simply because, since they are animated by magic/curses no logical rules need to apply. It’s magic, baby, they could regenerate, fly, never rot, be super intelligent, creepy magic attacks of their own, infect others with a mere glance, fart projectiles…. whatever the author/director wants to do with them.
They could be the weakest of the zombie breeds or the strongest or anything in between.
And that’s why they’re the most annoying; you never know what they might be able to do or not do.
Just like Grandma (Shakes head at the utter unpredictable nature of Blood thirsty grandparents.)
