“The Host” The Parasitic/Symbiotic zombie type
on August 23, 2010 at 5:00 amToday’s zombie webcomic entry is “The Host”
This is the zombie type caused by some other horrible creature infecting the host and causing the end of the world. Yeah!
The Scary part of this for me is that we have real examples of crap like this happening, I’m sure by now you’ve seen some story about that fungus that zombify’s ants and causes them to act crazy, and then spores pop out it’s head. That crap keeps me up at night…. and not in that fun slappy way either.
To be honest when the zombie apocalypse happens…. and it will. This is high on my list of the most realistic ways it could occur.

lol love this zombie type
Me too. If you haven’t checked out the movie “Night of the Creeps” you really have to look that one up. Perfect example of “The Host” zombie. Also one of my favorite zombie movies ever.
No really, you need to find it…. It’s pure zombie goodness from the 80′s.
well done on this one. If I dint know any better, I would think you knew my grandma on a personal level.
Mind you she wont ever die…you cant kill pure evil.
You should look up another movie from the 80′s “The Granny” That had enough zombie grandma and bad acting to satisfy anyone’s craving.
Also the main heroine was very good looking.
Proof the zombie apocolypse is coming

Check the post, Grim, I have that very link already there.
That is terrifying though, just shows that the potential for disaster is all around has and always has been.
We’re doomed…. I hope it’s nice to be a zombie.
ohhhh
I read an article like that on yahoo several months ago about the same fungus and then I did a check and found that article. Then my brain went, Hey grim..you know you should share that.
My brain is stupid at times
Dude, no, relax, it’s awesome. Please keep sharing.
I’ve seen several articles on this subject from a whole bunch of sources. I love it and read them all..
Some of the best stuff I’ve seen on the intertubes my awesome readers sent me.
I like the word “awesome”
DEAR LORD! Someone call a priest and the guy that owns the gun store! Also, under the list of causes, you forgot to put demons. My last year of school also started today, so I may go into a zombie-like state from time to time.
No no I’ve got them.
Last entry in the Metaphysical section.
Examples of demonic possesion zombies would be “REC 1 and 2″, “The Evil Dead series”, and “Creepshow”… I’m sure I could find more on this one.
Good luck in school.
There are quite a few cases of “zombified” ants in the world, ranging from fungus to nematodes. Fascinating and frightening at the same time. How long before these buggers make the leap from ants and other bugs to something bigger?

In the case of the last story, we just shouldn’t meddle in things like this, way to risky.
I’m at work and we use a very old browser. So I can’t see exactly what this is because I get an error message that basicly says “hey dumbass join the rest of us in the 21st century”
any who it’s supposed to be a photo gallery

I’ll have to check it out when I get home to see what’s actually there, but here’s the link

Zombie Animals and Parasites……
K, I’m going to check these out, but if this makes me cry like a (Manly) little girl and I can’t sleep at night because of the nightmares…. I’m blaming all of you.
Won’t be able to do anything about it, but I’ll blame you.
Okay I read those stories…. I’m never going to eat meat, visit any place tropical, or sleep ever again.
Damnit! I’m horrified.
Tac nuke the planet its the only way to be sure.
Not good enough, something might survive. Throw the whole planet into the sun. I’m going to go scrub myself with alcohol to get clean.
I won’t lie some of the alcohol might “Accidently” get swallowed…. for medicinal purposes, of course.
I agree, nukes are not the way to go for this kind of thing. Plus, it may just end up creating radioactive zombies. Do you WANT radioactive zombies running around?! I didn’t think so.
Carter, considering that my school is an old, leaking, dirty piece of junk(which I still love) filled with students that act like elementary kids, I may just need that luck. I’m not kidding about the leaking part, it rained fairly hard today and there were several areas where trashcans and buckets were placed to collect the water.
That sounds like my old school. Now through in feelings of inadequacy and a total lack of social ability and that’s my high school experience.
Worst three years of my life.
Good luck, hope you survive it.
Not really zombie related…but the movie about an alien entity taking over a human host that literally kept me up for nights on end was ‘The Thing’ circa 1982…John Carpenter did a great job capturing the multitude of ways a human body can separate and become individual flesh-eating entities while capturing the most violent and disturbingly disgusting ways for it to happen!! Still gives me the chills!!! I still check every morning that my dog’s face won’t peel back from the skull and then try to eat me…like I said, not really zombie related but in a relevant way, very pertinent to the topic.
I love that movie, it’s in my permanent collection right next to the black and white original “The thing from another world 1951″ and the comics published by Dark Horse.
Also, because I’m a huge nerd, don’t forget they are making a prequel that is currently in production.
I’m excited.
I’ve been doing this for most of my life; I think I can handle one more year.
Good Man, keep it up.
Life got waaay better after high school. College was much better, and now that I’m married I even have regular access to boobs.
Could life get any better?
“The Puppet Masters” by Robert A. Heinlein. It’s the novel that inspired “the host” genre of books and films.A movie adaptation was released in the mid 90s, it’s nowhere as good as the book of course.
I read that book and watched the movie. Don’t judge me to harshly but I actually liked the movie much better. All the “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” movies were inspired by “The Puppet Masters” I have seen them all and they scare the crap out of me every time.
I think those movies and zombie movies share a common theme of paranoia and a feeling of everyone being “taken over” that I just can’t get enough of.
Thanks for reminding me of “The puppet masters” I’ll update the Zombies defined page with that under the Parasite zombies.
