Debating this with Rosco the other day. While I believe that Frankenstein’s monster is unquestioningly a member of the “Undead” as it’s parts were dead and now it is alive, I don’t believe he is a zombie. Think about it. A zombie is essentially a dead body that is reanimated by whatever means. The monster on the other hand was built and then animated. The most important part is that it is alive, not dead.
Rosco, zombies are still dead. There moving, but they are dead. Frankenstein’s monster is not dead anymore.
If you have an opinion on this stupid debate feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you think….. Especially if you agree with me.

Not all zombies are dead, goober. What about voodoo zombification. That’s actually considered real and those people are alive.
Take that, nerd.
True, However, Frankenstein’s Monster lives in the realm of fiction sadly like most zombies. There I would say the definition of zombie is a mindless reanimated dead body. It’s dead and moving, and most likely biting people.
The monster is alive and has a mind of it’s own and doesn’ bite people…. It does not fit with the “Romero” version of zombieism.
You know what that’s going to be my next project… Defining all the various types of zombies. And I’m drafting you to help me.
Take that, Geek!
I agree with Carter; frankenstein’s monster is a living, breathing being with normal bodily processes. Zombies, if they are to fall under what I think is the normal definition by today’s standards (dead bodies which are reanimated by some sort of virus or the like), are just corpses with no thoughts, nor have they a pulse. Therefor, Frankenstein = not a zombie.
Aha, but my Doppleganger would argue that “Voodoo Zombies” are also alive, breath, poop, and whatnot. Voodoo zombies predate Romero’s vision of zombies. So you can’t call Frankenstein’s Monster NOT a zombie based on that.
I say, he is an amalgamation of various dead bodies brought back to life, that makes him some kind of Undead Construct, but not a zombie.
Zombies started out as an individual not a collection of parts.
Just a note. Frankenstein’s monster was made out of dead parts. Frankenstein studied dead bodies to see how they work, but made the monster from scratch.
I don’t think making the monster out of dead bodies counts as making him from “Scratch” exactly.
I’ve gone back and forth over this. The monster is made from various dead body parts and reanimated with science. Normally I’d say that’s a zombie, except the monster is now “alive” and has a will of it’s own. Very unzombie like.
I always thought that the Frankenstein monster was more of an organic robot. Animated by electricity, but without purpose. It still retains a mind of sorts and is capable of reasoning. It also does not decay. As opposed to the zombie which defies death, but has a specific purpose of killing. No reasoning and no force will stop them.
Actually by the end of Merry Shelly’s novel the monster is quite intelligent and motivated, but also pretty pissed off at Dr. Frankenstein.
I go back and forth on whether I consider him a zombie. I mean he was a bunch of dead parts, brought back to life through science. That’s got to be undead of some kind, right?
