The Nemesis.
No good story is complete without a villain. Often the better the villain the better the story. After all where would Luke Skywalker be without Vader? Where would James Bond be without Dr. No? Where would I be without my ex-wife? (Happier, more money, less emotionally scarred… but let’s not get into it.)
So I introduce my character’s nemesis. He is they’re bane, he is they’re arch rival,…. he wears a stupid hat.
